The Three Emojis team is excited to announce that Three Emojis is better than ever. Besides a stupid number of bugs that were fixed and some design tweaks, we rebuilt the game entirely on a new hosting provider while adding many more features. This post gets into the details of the changes we've made since June.

Support for Multiple Languages

The biggest change is that besides supporting playing the game with German and English words, we now support playing the game with English, German, Chinese and Spanish user interfaces and definitions. What this means is that, for example, if you are a native speaker of Chinese and you want to learn American English, you can now play the game with American English words while having the game interface in Chinese and the definitions be in both Chinese and English.

Previously, all of the user interfaces and definitions were all only in English. We want to allow everyone in the world to play high quality word games in any language they want, no matter what language they speak. This is a big step towards that goal and lays the foundation for more languages to come. If you would like to see your language added, please let us know on Discord or via email at info@threeemojis.com. To switch languages, you can click the flag icons at the bottom of the page, or in the settings menu during game play.

Say Hello to the Speech Bubble!

During the game, we want to talk to you and let you know how you are doing. Previously, we had been using a marquee to show you messages about how things are doing. How silly we were. We now use a speech bubble that pops up to tell you messages about how great you are doing. This is better in every way and we cannot believe that it took us this long to realize this is how we should do it.

Sharing and Social Media

Naturally, you are proud when you find all the words and complete a full game of Three Emojis, and so you want to share your results with the world. Too bad! Or at least it was. Only recently did we add a share button to the game that gives you a nice message to share how you did with your friends and family. As well, we added image previews that show up when you share the url for a game on social media. Again, this should have existed a long time ago, and it took us a while to get it right.

Game Tuning, Editing, and Flagging

We heard you! The game was too long, some of the words were too weird/difficult/hard to find, and some obvious words would sometimes be missing. We want the game to be awesome in every conceivable way, nothing less than stunning perfection, and as such we have taken three concrete steps to ensure that we continue to deliver a high quality game experience.

First, we have tuned the algorithm that selects the letters for the game to ensure that there aren't too many words in the word list. We think a sweet spot is around 45 words per game, longer than that and it can feel like a slog making your way through the game, shorter than that and what's the point of playing, you know?

Next up, we now play the game each day before you do and make sure that the word list is good. We play one to a few days ahead, and edit the word list as we go. This means we remove the words that we think aren't a good fit for the game and add any words that should be included that are somehow missing. We try to automate this process as much as possible, but the computers are only so smart, and as soon as we started playing ahead we noticed that complaints about the word list went way down. Again, something we should have been doing a while ago and we are just getting around to it now.

Lastly, if our algorithms and manual editing misses a word, then there is now a system built into the game for you to give us feedback on the word list. That means you can flag a word as not being fit for the word list and we will look into whether it should be removed. You can find this by opening the definition of the word and then hitting the flag button in that section. Likewise, if we missed a word that should be in the word list, you can request that word by going into the settings menu and then using the request a word button. If you provide your email address, we'll send you an email following up about your request. We can't promise we will accept every suggestion, but we do promise to look into every request and take your suggestions seriously.

Better Definitions and Archive Access

On November 24th, 2025, we greatly improved the way definitions were generated, stored and displayed in the game. We provide a definition for each word in the game, and we provide a translation of each sense of that definition in all the languages we support. Initial feedback about this has been very positive, and we are working to improve the definitions even more. What this means for the archive is that proper definitions don't exist for games previously played before November 24th, 2025, and the archive will only go back as far as that date. Oh, also, there is now an archive of games that subscribers can access, we should mention that as well.

In Conclusion

Thank you! We are very grateful for your support and feedback. We are constantly working to improve the game and make it better for you. Please keep on enjoying the game and let us know what you think!
